CEE 403W CIVIL ENG DSGN PROJ/PRF PRC II
My Class

CEE 403W was a course I undertook during my senior spring semester, focusing on the design process for developing contract documents for infrastructure construction projects. The course aimed to apply civil engineering theory to design sustainable projects, equipping students with skills in planning, managing, and preparing construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and bid schedules for bidding projects.

In this course, I served as a student on the structural team of a project. The class primarily revolved around project-based learning, culminating in a comprehensive presentation at the end of the semester. My specific contribution involved designing a pedestrian bridge for an undeveloped community in Virginia.

Through my involvement in CEE 403W, I developed essential engineering skills and honed my problem-solving abilities. Additionally, the project provided valuable insights into bridge design, further enhancing my understanding of structural engineering principles. Moreover, I was able to apply my entrepreneurship skills in the workplace context, preparing me for my upcoming role at an engineering firm.

As I aspire to pursue a career path in construction project management, the skills acquired in CEE 403W are highly relevant. Effective project management requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership, and business acumen, all of which were cultivated through this experience.

This experience holds immense significance for me both personally and professionally. It not only deepened my understanding of civil engineering principles but also provided practical experience in applying those principles to real-world projects. Furthermore, the project allowed me to develop leadership skills and fostered collaboration within a team setting. Additionally, the course provided networking opportunities with peers and faculty, laying the groundwork for future professional connections in the engineering field.
